Slavery was when black Africans were forced to be slaves to work for white people. Slavery was for the black Africans only, it happened in the 18 th and 19 th century. Just because of racism they were taken away by white men, and since they were poor they didn’t get any money for the jobs that they had been doing. WHAT WAS SLAVERY?

The Africans had to travel by ship. They travelled all the way from Africa to South and North America. Life was horrible for them. The reason why was because they were separated from their families. Some people died on the journey there. Those that survived were sold in auctions. Children were taken from parents. -LIFE ON THE SHIP-

Music played an important part in African lives because it was a way of expressing their emotions. They also had songs for healing the sick and lullabies for the babies. While working in the fields the slaves also sang rhythmic turns to keep the beat as they worked. - MUSIC -
