General Moraling Tips!!

General Moraling Tips “What if my dancer has a lot of support or pushy friends?” Sometimes friends know what the dancer needs most so give your dancer some alone time with their friends and find another dancer in need of moraling. Friends will not be trained the way you are so feel free to remind them not to say that they are tired or sore or tell the dancer the time.

General Moraling Tips “What if my dancer needs help but refuses it?” Get a Captain. If a dancer is refusing to cooperate and you think they need help, get assistance from any of the Captains. We are all here for all of you!

General Moraling Tips “What if I have to use the restroom when I’m on shift?” Unfortunately, you aren’t allowed to use the bathrooms on the event level. It’s very important that you go before you come on shift so your Captain doesn’t need to walk you back upstairs. Shifts are only about four to five hours long so hopefully you can wait that long!

General Moraling Tips “What are the slides of strength?” These are a very popular activity put on for dancers by our OPP friends! These give dancers an opportunity to get off of their feet for a few seconds and have their muscles massaged. Be sure to tell your dancer that they will get baby powder on them (from head-to-toe) because some of them may not like that!

General Moraling Tips “How do I split time between my dancer and my committee?” When you are on the floor on your shift, you are there for the dancers. Although you love your committee and want to spend time with them, now is not the time. If your dancer doesn’t need your help or has a lot of friends around them, go help a dancer who doesn’t have that and would like some company!

General Moraling Tips “How do I give a good foot rub?” Get used to giving foot rubs to dancers! Be sure to always have baby powder and hand sanitizer on you at all times. The powder makes the foot rub feel better and the hand sanitizer will make you feel clean after! Be sure to help the dancer balance when they are taking their shoes off then…

How to Give a Foot Massage 1. Move in the direction of toe to ankle. Continue by stroking the sole of the foot, first more gently, then increase the pressure. 2. Make circular motions with your thumb and fingers over the sole of the foot. Use more pressure in areas like the heel and ball of the foot. Start from the top and work your way down to the bottom of the foot. Don’t forget about the sides of the feet too! 3. Hold the food with one hand and use the other to rotate the foot, first at the ankle and then near the ball of the foot. Step Number 2: Use your thumb to work out the bottom of their feet!

How to Give a Foot Massage 4. Knead the sole by holding the foot with one hand and making a fist with the other. Use moderate pressure and don’t forget to massage the arch! 5. Begin with the big toe and work towards the pinky, taking each told individually. Roll the toe between your thumb and forefinger as you slide your fingers down the toe to the end. 6. Take your index finger and slide it between each toe about five times. To complete the massage, use your thumb and fingers to make circular motions once again over the sole. End by stroking the sole and instep! Step 4: Make sure you apply enough pressure without hurting the dancer!

Moralers Going the Extra Mile Dancers love when Moralers go above and beyond supporting them throughout THON weekend. Tips and tricks to keep dancers motivated and happy: Collect mail from friends, family, significant others Memorize their dancer registration survey (things they like, hate, want to do at THON, etc.) Think about what little kids love and get them those toys! Give them a unique piece of clothing or accessories Think shirt, cape, hat These things can also help you find them
