Objects follow an action verb. The “equation” for action verb sentences looks like:

direct object- a noun or pronoun that receives the action of a verb or shows the result of the action.  It answers “what?” or “whom?” after an action verb  ex) I kicked the ball.

indirect object- a noun or pronoun that precedes the direct object  These are optional  Tells “to whom” or “for whom” the action of the verb is done ex) I kicked him the ball.

Draw an arrow from the action verb to the direct object and another one from the direct object to the indirect object (if there is one!). 1) Medieval knights often rescued maidens in danger. 2) The algebra teacher lent her a new ruler.
