Primary PP Project: Cheshire East Council in conjunction with Aspirer Teaching Alliance.

The Aspirer Teaching Alliance  Director of Teaching School – Emma Hooley  Led by Ash Grove Academy – Executive Principal Kevin Simpson.  8 Primary Schools across CE  2 Secondary Schools  LA  Edge Hill University  IOE - London

Our bid….  Pupil premium was a major factor in the initial bid which led us to talk to the LA about helping coordinate the project.  Ash Grove has 80% ever 6 children across the school  Been on a journey to ensure PP children make maximum progress  Now PP outperform non PP children in every year group  Kevin’s philosophy is that even though he has a lot of children in receipt of PP, many of the strategies they use can be used on much smaller scales.

Menu of options and Interventions…. The offer….. In shaping the offer we looked closely at the feedback given before the conference and identified key priorities. In shaping the offer we looked closely at the feedback given before the conference and identified key priorities. These have been identified as:  Tracking PP pupils, using assessment data and Quality First Teaching  High impact interventions  Promoting better parental engagement  Non academic interventions including pupil motivation / self esteem  Small numbers of PP students in bigger/high performing schools.  Developing the role of the PP governor.

1:1 sessions  Each school will have the opportunity to request half a day of focused audit, discussion and action planning around the use of PP money in their school. These reviews will be led by:  Kevin Simpson – Ash Grove - Macclesfield  Caron Corden – Parkroyal - Macclesfield  Sandie Isherwood – Marlfields – Congleton  Jo Ashcroft – Wilmslow Grange – Wilmslow

Format of the reviews:  Will look at standards and progress  Current provision  Current spending priorities  Any issues around attendance and punctuality  At the end of the session the school will have created a short, medium and long term action plan.

Feedback from trials of these sessions:  ‘The process was very professionally carried out and extremely useful’  ‘I am more than happy to enthusiastically endorse the process. Indeed, I have been doing so already with anyone who will listen.’  The Peer review you carried out with us made a very positive contribution to our self-evaluation and left us with clear action points for development. Hubs  Hubs will be formed  Hubs will be themed based (based on the needs of the school) and will meet once every half term. The Pupil Premium Champion will be the representative at these meetings.  The themes may change / evolve over the year  There will be a focus on innovation and action research – impact! CPD We will run CPD sessions across the year linked to the key priorities set by schools. Ideas might include:  ECAR and literacy based interventions  Maths recovery  Good to Outstanding teaching and learning  Developing social and emotional competencies  Collaborative learning  TEEP  Raising aspirations  Feedback If schools require more bespoke interventions these can be arranged at additional costs.

Post Launch…  6 Hubs Created – meetings begin in next few weeks.  Approximately 40 1:1 Reviews requested.  Feedback from evaluations was overwhelmingly positive. Comments included: “Really excited about getting started” “A well thought out, planned project, which think will have real impact.”
