ENERGY By: Justin Keir

WHAT ENERGY IS Energy is anything that can get work done. From breathing, having a party, building the pyramids anything that is moving. Where is energy? You can’t touch or see energy but, you can see the results of the energy. There is energy in the sounds that come out of C.D. players, in your cars, and just about everything.

ENERGY YESTERDAY Cave dwellers had to make fire and use it as their only energy. Fire fed by wood is one of the earliest forms of energy. People used water for grinding food before they realized that they could use water to make electricity.

WIND POWER Getting work done with wind power began about a thousand years ago in ancient Persia.

FOSSIL FUELS There are only so many fossil fuels. That means that if we use too much then there will be no more left. If we keep up the amount of oil we use the earth will be out in about We use fossil fuels as the main way that we make electricity.

SOLAR ENERGY Later on people have found ways to use the sun to make electricity.

SPLITTING ATOMS Splitting atoms is the fastest way to make electricity. It is also very dangerous if there was an accident it could kill all the plants and animals in that area and for many, many years.

WATER POWER Water is a another way to make electricity. To use water to make electricity you have to make a canal of water and put a water wheel.

SUN The sun is 93 million miles away. It sends a form of energy. It sends electric and magnetic waves. Scientific term for light waves is electromagnetic radiation. When you put the sun into a prism it divides up the colors and makes a rainbow.

FOOD Everything that you eat comes from plants.

MACHINES Some machines are very simple or very complex but all are important. Scissors are very simple but are very important. Some machines are also very complex. Like a robot that can clean your room.

SAVE ENERGY A way of saving energy is by riding your bike to different places. You could also ride in a car run by solar panels. Battery operated cars can cost about $2.64 to run them 74 miles. They can run about miles on one charge. By replacing private cars with public transportation you can save energy. With less cars on the road it can help the environment.
