Presentation transcript:

 Overview of Interior Finishes  Types  Examples

 Anything that requires woodwork in the finished stages.  Ex: Moldings around ceilings, Floors, Doors, Windows, shelving, cabinets, fireplace mantels, hand railing

 Moldings are estimated by linear foot  Doors, Windows, Cabinets, etc. by the unit.  Cost of these items vary considerably with kind and grade of materials and the grade of workmanship.  Most Dependable Way To Estimate:  List quantity and cost of each item seperately  Show the quantity and cost of labor to install each

 Doors can be made of wood or metal.  Time required to set door depends of size of opening and quality of workmanship.  Exterior doors require more time due to thickness.  Solid wood – exterior doors  Hollow wood –interior doors  Doors also can come prehung from manufacturer.

 Typically listed:  Location  Type  Size  Quantity  Special Remarks  Fire rating  Frame type  Material composition  Hardware set

Door Hardware

 May be metal, wood, or vinyl. Prices vary greatly.  Prefabricated window frames are sent from supplier and are installed in previously framed stud walls.

Typically includes:  Designation (usually by letter)  Size in width and height  Material composition of the sash and frame  Manufacturer and model number  Type or Function (ex. Fixed, double-hung)  Glazing requirements

 Placed on masonry and concrete walls to permit installation of gypsum, prefinished plywood, or other type of finished interior wall materials.  Labor Hours required to place wood furring strips and grounds in usually estimated by 100 lf.

 Known as Drywall, aka sheetrock  Manufactured in sheets ½” or 5/8” thick and 4’x 8’ or 4’ x 10’  Fastened to furring strips on concrete walls, directly to studs, and to the ceiling joists.  Labor hours required to install drywall varies with size and complexity of area. (round walls are more complex than flat walls)

 Priced by the square foot (SF)  Taping and finishing are listed by SF  Pricing depends on finishing:  Textured, smooth, sprayed  Hanging drywall is usually done by a crew  Usually a budget is allotted for touch-ups

 Prefinished plywood panels are used to cover walls and ceilings.  Panels are ¼” – ¾” thick and 4’ wide by 8’ long.  Available in almost every type of wood.  Cost depends on size and species.  The cost of labor installing plywood panels varies considerably with size, shape, and complexity of area.  Waste factor can be high depending on shapes in areas.

 Base board moldings are made of pine or oak  Installed at floor level around the room.  Crown molding are installed at ceiling level

 Lumber used for flooring includes pine, fir, maple, spruce, and oak.  Available in prefinished strips that have tongue and groove slots that are glued, rather than nailed.
