Christy Smith By Nicole Caswell deaf survivor

Christy’s birth Christy was born on September 13 th 1978 in Colorado. She was born premature. She lost her hearing soon after she was born when she pulled air tubes away from herself.

Christy’s Childhood She moved to Washington D.C. with her two brothers. She attended Gallaudet University. She obtained a bachelors degree in art.

Christy’s Career After College she became a contestant for the TV show Survival. She was the first deaf contestant on Survival. There she was treated as any other contestant. After she was taken off the show she started a TV show called Christy’s kids. It impacted the deaf community to see her on Survival. They saw that the deaf could be anything anyone else could be.
