Theatrical Reading! Prepare to read the poem/story to the audience. Each member of group must be included in the reading. Make your reading over the top!

Groups of Four to Five Each group will create a power point presentation for their Edgar Allan Poe poem or short story. Choose a team facilitator Each student will be responsible for part of the presentation including all work involved. Facilitator must keep track of each person’s responsibilities in group. Group grade as well as individual grade.

Recite and Understand! Group reading. Read once again, and choose ten or more vocabulary words. Assign each person in group vocabulary words. Homework: Define words and find synonyms: Choose definitions that work in the context of the Poem/Story. Power Point Slide: vocabulary words & all

The Author Research Author Each student responsible for part of research. Discuss research. Author’s life affects Author’s work. Collaborate. Power Point Slide: Create an Outline:Tell us about the Author.

“Above the Surface” Read individually. “Above the Surface” thinking. Main Characters? Setting? Conflict? Main Events? Climax? Resolution? Rhyme scheme? Rhythm? Figurative Language? PowerPoint Slide:Graphic Organizer of above information.

“Below the Surface” Each student: fill in a “dialectical reading response” sheet with a quick draw. Use quotes/examples. Free Response. Universal Themes? What is the author trying to say about human nature? Society? Power Point Slide: collaborate and create ONE “reading response” sheet.

Research, Once Again! Group should research critical essays and other sources that give information about poem/story. Discuss! Collaborate. Power Point Slide: share research. Don’t plagiarize! Remember: discuss information and back up that information with “quotes from poem/story.

Become the Artist! Power Point Slide: Create an artistic visual of your story/poem. Visualize the poem/story. Let us see what you see!
