WELCOME TO 7 TH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS ACADEMY With Mrs. Stroud!

BACK TO SCHOOL Contact me by: Phone: (951) (I will get back to you in hours) (I will respond in less than 12 *************************************************************** This Power point is available on my teacher website!

PARENT/STUDENT INFO  My Syllabus (Found in student’s Binder and teacher webpage)  Teacher Website  Class Procedures page (on website and in binder)  Text messages and reminders available with office hours chat!  When all else fails, ask Mrs. Stroud! (Never rely on another student)

NOT YOUR AVERAGE CLASS  This class is not a second, grade level language arts class; it is an elective class.  There is no homework, EVER!  This grade has no relationship to how your student is doing in their regular Language Arts class.  All work is done in class and never taken out of class. Supplies included.  We have a reduced class size to help students focus and get more access to a teacher.  Students can work to exit from the class at trimester based on LA grades, work completion and baseline testing scores.

HOW DO YOU HELP?  We have set routines with high structure to practice various language arts skills.  Pre-teach and reteach highly impactful skills  Work on classroom behavior, academic choices, and time management.  Build self confidence and understanding through broken down and chunked assignments.  Support their Language arts class work and AR goal with time to work with teacher and seek assistance.

ROUTINE: MONDAY AND THURSDAY  The students walk in and do a daily sentence correction  Activity or concept focus of the week including notebook notes.  Reading and comprehension activity  Writing practice

WEDNESDAY WORK  Complete any work needed for a notebook check of all completed assignments from this class.  Time to work on any assignments from their Language Arts class with help from me  Time to read their AR book, visit the library and take an AR test  Notebook check, B&B (backpack and binder) and grade check

WHY DO THEY NEED ME? Middle school is DIFFERENT:  No named papers are thrown out  7 different teachers, styles, classes, procedures, and classmates  42 students per class, stay focused  Behavior expectations are higher  Organization is KING! Don’t procrastinate.  Block Schedule (I see your student for 1hr 35 min ever other day)  No meetings/conferences with individual teachers, only team meetings
