HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY The French found them and called them nay per-say. The Europeans introduced horses to them and America. Nez Perce had a war against the U.S. government, because they wanted the Nez Perce land. The Nez Perce had 750 soldiers and 300 of them died. Were they lived they found gold. HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY The Nez Perce lived in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. They had very rich farming lands. In their area they had many trees. MAIN MENU

HOMES The Nez Perce house were called a Earth houses. They dug under ground rooms, built wooden frames over it, and it was called a long house. Dozens of families lived in it. Their long house could be as long as 150 feet. A different house was a round house for one family. Their most common house was called a walimina- t, it was oval shaped. DRESS Men wore breechcloths and leggings. Woman wore dresses made from deer skin. Woman also wore feather headdresses. They started to make clothes from fabric they got from trading with the Europeans. MAIN MENU PUT

FOOD The Nez Perce hunted elk, deer, and buffalos for food. They picked berries and gathered nuts for food. They dug camas roots, and ate the stalks. They ate wild lilies, and ate blubs from flowers. They ate salmon. MAIN MENU

CUSTOMS & RELIGION The Nez Perce were Christians. They followed the teachings of Jesus Christ. They had a ceremony for all of the animals they killed. The earth was their mother. They thought their mother filled the lakes, streams, and ponds. They thought their mother gave them all of their food. Their bothers were animals, trees, rocks, and shells. INTERESTING FACTS The French had named them Nez Perce it meant pierced nose, they were named that because some people put sea shells in their noses. The woman in the relationship made all of the tools for hunting and things that were needed.
