K INETIC ENERGY

L EARNING G OALS Describe Kinetic Energy Describe the relationship between KE and PE

K INETIC E NERGY Kinetic Energy: The energy of an object that is due to the object’s motion or action.

M AXIMUM K INETIC E NERGY Maximum Kinetic Energy- When the motion or action of the object is at its greatest.

M INIMUM K INETIC E NERGY Minimum Kinetic Energy- When the motion or action of the system is at its least.

P ENDULUM L AB Scientific Question: How are kinetic and potential energy related? Safety precautions: Use the pendulum only as demonstrated in class. Keep all yard sticks on the tables.

PE/KE RELATIONSHIP How are PE and KE related? When is PE at its max? When is KE at its max? When are PE and KE equal?

PE/KE RELATIONSHIP PE and KE have an INVERSE relationship. As one goes up, the other goes down.

R OLLER COASTER LAB Goals: SI: Record observations correctly Energy: Analyze the amount of kinetic and potential energy in a system. Question How does the amount of potential energy in a system effect the amount of kinetic energy in a system? Safety Precautions Marbles are to stay on the tracks only. Do not stand on chairs or tables. Keep tracks out of the isle.
