Every technology development investment dollar is critical to the ultimate success of NASA’s mission -Ensure alignment and integration with Mission Directorates’ priorities - Investments are complementary with technologies being pursued by +other NASA programs and projects +prime contractors +other agency SBIR/STTR investments Ultimate objective is to achieve infusion of critical technologies into NASA -flight programs/projects -ground or test systems -or other uses to advance NASA’s mission Mission Directorates establish high priority needs and existing gaps -High priority needs are developed into topics for the annual solicitation -Subtopics may be clustered to support the development and maturation of critical technologies for infusion NASA Centers are home to NASA’s development projects, research facilities, and Subject Matter Experts and therefore play a critical role.

NASA’s SBIR/STTR Annual Budget $150-$170M Topics/Subtopics developed to: support the needs of NASA’s Mission Directorates to support mid- to long-term technology development needs identified in NASA’s “Space Technology Roadmaps” or the National Aeronautics R&D Plan All SBIR/STTR projects are managed at one of NASA’s 10 Centers NASA’s SBIR/STTR Annual Budget $150-$170M Topics/Subtopics developed to: support the needs of NASA’s Mission Directorates to support mid- to long-term technology development needs identified in NASA’s “Space Technology Roadmaps” or the National Aeronautics R&D Plan All SBIR/STTR projects are managed at one of NASA’s 10 Centers

Structure of the Programs 7 Phase I General Select Value ($125K) Phase II General ($750K) Select ($1.5M) Phase II-E Phase II-X Phase III Non-SBIR funding: Contract from NASA program, other agency, prime contractor SBIR: CRP (Commercial Readiness Program) Concept Infusion or Commercialization 24-month Period of Performance-Phase II Six-month (SBIR) or Twelve-month (STTR) Period of Performance - Phase I

CRP: Commercialization Readiness Program 8 Goal: The Bridge to Infusion and Commercialization Objective: To result in infusion or commercialization, not an incremental improvement in technology maturation alone. The CRP is part of several activities within the NASA SBIR/STTR Program seeking to expand opportunities for technology maturation between SBIR/ STTR companies and four major groups: 1. NASA programs and missions 2. NASA Prime Contractors 3. State and regional entities 4. Other networks Award Amount: CRP funding is authorized to 3 times the maximum agency SBIR/STTR award level, with awards typically ranging between $100K to $1.5M.

9 SBIR/STTR Technology Award Stages Concept Infusion or Commercialization Phase I Phase II Phase II-E/X Funding Time Commercialization Readiness Program (CRP) Commercialization Readiness Program (CRP) The CRP is intended to provide the bridge to infusion. Since it is a Phase III, it can occur at any point after a Phase I award, however, such instances will be very rare; most CRP awards will occur after a Phase II. Post Phase II Initiatives: Phase II-E Phase II-X CRP
