Adaptive learning Make eLearning more personal and more effective By Kasper Spiro

About

Why? We can create better and more effective eLearning by making better use of learning objectives. They can help in: designing personalizing tracking and tracing evaluating connecting to the business

Personalizing

Learning Management System: Include the courses in your adaptive path based on learning objectives Capture the outcome (per learning objective)\ –Determine next step –report Authoring system Create courses build around learning objectives (make sure they report into the LMS) Use objectives for tracking progress and study advice

Didactics Learning objectives Questions and cases Information

Action Mapping Rules for creating Learning objectives 1.Identify the business goal 2.Identify what people need to do (instead of need to know), translate them into actions 3.Design a (real world) activity for each action that help people practice each behavior 4.Identify what people really (really?) need to know, add that information

Action Mapping plus …. If you use learning objectives you will add: Instructional design support A better way to inform the learner on goals and progress Personalize the eLearning experience (on a course and a curriculum level) Connect your learning outcome to business goals

Identify the business goals Make a business manager the ‘client’ Start with the learning objectives (and budget and outcome target) Translate them into activities –Get subject matter experts involved Use didactical structure –Learning objectives –Questions/cases –Information Keep the business informed –Be as agile as you can, give demo’s every one or two weeks Deliver course Evaluate course –With the business Design a specific course

Identify the business goals Adaptive course from learners perspective How to create an adaptive course in easygenerator? Easygenerator demo

Learning process Objectives will: 1.inform the learner on the goals 2.inform the learner on the progress 3.personalize the eLearning experience 4.report learning outcomes

Personalize the eLearning –In a course Use branching techniques on question, case or assessment level Create study advices Show where to go –In the curriculum (LMS) Use learning objectives to create an adaptive learning path between courses

Conclusion Using learning objectives will: change your courses improve the eLearning experience make eLearning more personal make your results measurable connect learning to the business
