Safeguarding Animal Health Picking and Staging: Documents Picking Process: Pick Sheet Identifies stock numbers, descriptions, storage locations, and quantities to pick. Staging Process: Packing Slip Identifies what items are contained in the order, regardless of where the item was located in the warehouse/storage facility. Is placed on each outgoing container. 5
Safeguarding Animal Health Picking Step 1: Process Orders The ordering manager Creates pick sheets and packing slips for each response site order destination. Provides one copy of the pick sheet and two copies of the packing slip to the receiving and distribution manager (RCDM). The RCDM Provides the warehouse team a copy of the pick sheet and packing slip. Places the second copy of the packing slip in Outgoing Orders folder. 6

Safeguarding Animal Health Picking Step 2: Pick Items Using a Pick Sheet The warehouse team does the following: Locates items as listed on the pick sheet Places items in a box or on a pallet Places heavier items on the bottom to avoid crushing smaller items Places items so they don’t overhang or fall off. The warehouse team notes any discrepancies (missing or damaged items) on pick sheet. If no discrepancies, notes quantity picked and signs pick sheet. If discrepancies, notify the receiving and distribution manager who resolves issues with ordering manager. Do not pick temperature sensitive items until time of delivery or pickup. Safeguarding Animal Health Staging Step 1: Quality Control Items & Step 2: Build and Secure Container(s) A warehouse team quality control representative verifies items and quantities picked agree with the packing slip and signs the packing slip and initials the pick sheet. The warehouse team stretch-wraps or otherwise secures the items on the pallet and adds a visual aid (such as an open cooler sitting on top of the pallet) for orders that include vaccine. Safeguarding Animal Health Staging Step 3: Affix Packing Slip The warehouse team affixes a packing slip to each pallet or container using a packing envelope and marks multiple pallets and containers going to the same destination to ensure all arrive at the correct destination. Example: “1 of 2” and “2 of 2”. The receiving and distribution manager verifies that the shipment is ready for delivery or pickup and enters the order number, destination, and warehouse team quality control representative into distribution log.
