Pathways to Prosperity

Monitoring and Compliance Audit Findings No evidence of a 5 year comprehensive Career and Technical Education program evaluation. Within the next calendar year, the plan must be implemented and substantially underway. Interviews indicate that principals have an awareness of the concentrator follow-up processes but have just recently begun to use labor market data and concentrator follow-up in determining course offerings at their schools.

Pathways to Prosperity Purpose Identify the fastest growing and highest demand business and industry growth areas and develop educational and training pathways. Ensure more students complete high school, attain a postsecondary credential with currency in the labor market, and get launched in a career while leaving open the prospect of further education and career advancement

Pathways to Prosperity Purpose Career information and advising systems, starting in the middle grades, expose students to a wide range of career options and opportunities to learn about high school and postsecondary courses of study leading to careers. Employer engagement connects business with educators to provide a continuum of work-based learning opportunities throughout grades Local and regional intermediaries serve as conveners, brokers and technical assistance providers to schools and employers engaged in building and sustaining pathways for students. State policies and systems are in place to support career pathways for students. Teachers receive the supports needed to work collaboratively and meet the individual needs of each student to be both college and career ready.

Pathways to Prosperity Process WCPSS School-to-Career Council will engage representatives from the following groups: Principals Chambers of Commerce Economic Development Student Services Community College Workforce Development boards

Pathways to Prosperity Process Asset Mapping o Identify Key Stakeholders (interview, SWOT analysis) o Use Labor Market Data o Determine target industry to focus Strategic Planning o Define Committee Members and their Roles o Conduct a series of planning meetings that focus on four key areas of work (levers): Career Pathways Employer Engagement Career Information and Advising Systems Intermediaries

Planning the Meetings Four or Five, 90 minute lunch meetings suggested: Meeting 1 -Purpose and Objective (provide foundational information from Asset Mapping) Meeting 2 -Committee work (predetermined committee members and chairperson) Meeting 3 -Committee work (predetermined committee members and chairperson Meeting 4- Committee work completed Meeting 5 -Complete strategic plan provided to the group with discussion.
