What is a Property? A property is a characteristic that describes an object or a substance. All matter can be described based on its physical properties.
A Physical Property is a property that can be observed without changing the make up of the substance. You just look at it - or measure it. Examples are:

 An observation  A physical property is any characteristics of matter that is observable or measureable.  Ex. Color, order, texture, shape, volume, mass, weight, size, temp., BP, etc.

 Chemical properties describe matter based on it’s ability to change into new matter that has different properties.  Ability of a substance to react reactivity  Ex. Flammability, oxidize, combustibility

Metal 1 Metal 2

 Identity of metal 1: steel  Supporting evidence: Magnetic, thin, heavy, ductility,2.3 (mass)/1 (volume) 2.3g cm³ density, 7.83g/cm3 (internet found) properties-of-steel.html

 Identity of metal 2: Aluminum  Supporting evidence: Non magnetic, fat, light, formability, malleability, 1.9 g/2 cm³,.95 cm³ density (what we found), 2.7g/cm3 rica/Aluminum/Properties-of-Aluminum/

 Identity of liquid: Rubbing alcohol  Evidence: smells, flammable, chemical property, transparent, 21 cm³ (volume), g (mass), density = 1.2 g/cm³

 Mystery powder: baking powder  Evidence: reacted with iodine (black), reacted with vinegar (white, bubbled up, air bubbles appeared), became squishy and airy with water. Mystery powder Baking powder Key: 1 st = react with water 2 nd = react with vinegar 3 rd = react to iodine

 We concluded that the metals found at the A West crime scene were: Steel and Aluminum  The Liquid was rubbing alcohol  The Powder was baking powder
