UNIT 1 FORCES & MOTION Ch 1 – Science & Measurement 1.1Time and Distance 1.2Investigations & Experiments 1.3Speed

1.1 Time and Distance Thinking about time –What time is it? (e.g., 12:35 PDT) –How much time? (3:44.25, WR mile) –How is time measured? (min, sec, hrs) –Mixed units allow us to express time in wide variety of units. ex: 1 min = 60 s and 60 min = 1 hr, so there are 3,600 s in 1 hour!

1.1 Time and Distance (cont.) Measuring Distance –Units of length: metric vs. English Length can be measured in meters, centimeters, kilometers or inches, feet, yards, and miles –Why were units invented? Communication between various people (common “language”) Standard for consistency -Scientists use metric units -You use units (usually English) everyday! (ounces, pounds, gallons,…)

1.1 Time and Distance Assignment Vocabulary, page 17, Set One Concept Review, page 18, #1,2 Problems, pages 18-19, #1-5
