Red/Green Fire Fighting Systems Fi Fi Mains ●Red System: Port Side Fire Main supplies two Monitors. M7 (6000) gpm on centerline on the fwd Wheelhouse top. M8 the smaller monitor (1500) gpm is on the boat deck level, just forward of the Wheelhouse. Both of these Monitors are Fog-Jet style nozzles(RC). Only the Blue system has a Fire Main Isolation valve. Lastly, the Red System supplies the Port discharge Manifold on the forward main deck. Red System pumping cap gpm.

Fire Fighting Systems Fi Fi Nozzles Deflector StyleFog-Jet Style The operator has to always be aware of the nozzles pointed direction when opening up the system. In the Wheelhouse you can not see the house top monitors.

Red/Green Fire Fighting Systems Fi Fi Mains ●Green System: Starboard side Fire Main also supplies two Monitors: M9 (6000) gpm located on Aft Wheelhouse top, centerline and M10 (1500) gpm mounted on the starboard side of the forward boat deck just in front of the CIC. Both these monitors are Fog-Jet style nozzles (RC). This fire main also supplies the starboard, forward main deck discharge manifold. Green System pumping capacity 7500 gpm.

Red/Green Fire Fighting Systems Off Ship Fi Fi Mains M8 M10 M7 M9 The Monitor's controls are color coordinated on their panels in the wheelhouse. EZ to follow.

Fire Fighting Systems Fire Pumps ●2-SFP 250x350XP FFS Fire Fighting Pumps psi Pumps 1 and 2. ●Single stage centrifugal pump ● PTO driven via a flexible coupling ●Unit is equipped with a multi-disc clutch that is hydraulically engaged. The hydraulic pump is internal. The pump also cools and lubricates the unit. ●Cooling is accomplished internally while pumping ●Pressure and Temperature gages each with switches (alarms) ●Oil filter with a clogging indicator ●Remotely operated (24v) ●Can be manually operated at the unit in emergency conditions ●Clutch housing contains 10.5 gallons of oil. NEVER use hydraulic oil ●Red and Green systems. Driven off the rear of the Cat-3512 drive engines

Fire Fighting System Pump Intakes This is the intake for Pump 1 (7500) gpm. The intake valve actuator is outboard of the pump intake under the floor plates. This sets in the ER just forward of the #7pump. Main Propulsion Engine

Fire Fighting Systems Discharge Piping The Discharge piping consists of a series of valves, check valves (clappers) and bypasses. Also system pressure sensors. As previously mentioned, the Blue System has an Isolation valve to separate the system into two parts if wanted. We are not going to trace all the systems out with a pictorial highway. To much to show. You will see it soon enough. But since these systems are all similar, a of couple of pictures will suffice. We will look at the bypasses, clappers and fire main overboard discharges. It is important to remember that there are NO relief valves in these Fire Fighting Systems. The occurrence of a Water Hammer has to be constantly on the mind of the operator while pumping. Thousands of gallons (weight) in motion can not stop quicky without damaging something! Take your time!

Fire Fighting Systems Discharge Piping Clapper Valve All discharge systems are identical in regards to the valving, clapper- valves and bypasses. Remember the discharge valves are remotely controlled from the wheelhouse FFS panels.

Fire Fighting Systems Bypass Systems ●Clapper Valve bypass (drain) ●Clapper Valve ●Isolation Valves ●Bypass Loop ●(RC) Discharge Valve ●Sensors/Gages The idea of the bypass loop is to be able to fill the system very slowly to minimize water hammer. In reality we will leave the isolation valve open and fill the system at idle, watching for a lazy discharge out the monitors. Possibly at times using the overboard discharges.

Fire Fighting Systems Fire Main Overboards The overboard systems are remotely controlled from the FFS panels. The operator can use the Overboards to divert pressure or drain a system. The water flow is directed downward at the through hull for obvious reasons. Visualize the out flow. Overboard Discharge Clapper Valve (RC) Discharge Valve

Fire Fighting Systems Fi Fi Controls The controls are 24v activated from the FFS panels. The discharge valves are Electric Motor driven. The intake valves are Electric/Air. Air being the driver. Valves are slow Opening/Closing

Fire Fighting System Fi Fi Controls Pressure Gages are located on the fore and aft panels in the Wheel- House. Pick your color! Notice there are two Blue gages. This is because the Blue system can be separated by the Isolation valve we mentioned earlier.
