Chapter 11 Inserting Images

Inserting images adds interest to a Word document. Word enables you to insert various types of images, including picture files, clip art, and SmartArt, in addition to text boxes holding pull quotes. Format, size, and position an image as needed to enhance the document.

Inserting an Image The Illustrations group of the Insert tab holds the buttons for inserting various types of artwork.

Inserting a Picture Word enables you to insert digital image files in a variety of common formats including JPEG, TIFF, and BMP. Click the Picture button in the Illustrations group of the Insert tab to open the Insert Picture dialog box. Navigate to the location holding the picture to insert, and then double-click the picture.

Formatting an Image After you insert an image in the document, click it at any time to select it so you can work with it. When the image is selected, the Picture Tools Format tab appears, offering a variety of tools for working with the image.

Picture Tools Format Tab Groups Adjust includes buttons for working with image color and compression, as well as changing and resetting the picture. Picture Styles includes buttons for applying styles, borders, and effects, as well as for applying a picture shape. Arrange offers buttons for positioning, aligning, and rotating the image. Size gives choices for cropping and sizing the image.

Example: Changing Picture Effect Generally, to make a change using a choice on the Picture Tools Format tab, select the image, click a button on the toolbar, and select a specific option, if needed. To apply a picture effect, click the picture. Click the Picture Effects button in the Picture Styles group of the Picture Tools Format tab. Point to a choice in the drop-down list, and then click the specific effect to apply.

Sizing an Image Change the size of the selected image by changing the entries in the Shape Height and Shape Width boxes in the Size group. Or, drag one of the sizing handles on the selected image. Drag a corner handle to resize proportionally (both height and width). Drag a side handle to change width, or the top or bottom handle to change height.

Rotating an Image Rotate the selected image by clicking Rotate in the Arrange group of the Picture Tools Format tab, and then clicking one of the options, such as Rotate Right 90 ⁰ or Flip Horizontal. Or, drag the green rotation handle at the top of the selected image to rotate it.

Moving an Image Click the Position button in the Arrange group of the Picture Tools Format tab to move the selected picture to a specific location and apply the desired text wrapping.

Moving an Image Before repositioning an image manually, choose how the text will wrap around the image. Click the Text Wrapping button in the Arrange group of the Picture Tools Format tab, and then click the desired wrapping style. After choosing the desired wrapping, drag the image to the desired location with the mouse. Or, nudge the image in small increments by pressing the arrow keys on the keyboard.

Checkpoint What group of the Insert tab holds buttons for inserting a variety of different types of graphics? Name one type of digital image file you can insert with the Picture button. What is the name of the tab of formatting choices that appears when you select an inserted picture? Name one type of setting that you can change or apply to customize a picture. How do you resize and rotate a picture? Name one way to move a picture. What must you do before moving a picture manually?

Inserting a Clip Art Image Word includes a large collection of clip art images that are both installed on the hard disk and available via Microsoft Office Online. Search for clip art by a descriptive word or phrase. Word automatically searches online for matching clip art, as well, when the system is connected to the Internet. To begin the process for inserting clip art, click the Clip Art button in the Illustrations group of the Insert tab. The Clip Art task pane appears.

Inserting a Clip Art Image Type a clip art search word or topic in the Search for text box and press Enter or click Go. You can use the Results should be choice to search for a particular type of media. Scroll through the matching images to identify the one you want, and then click it to insert it in the document.

Working with a Clip Art Image Select, move, and resize inserted clip art as for a picture. When a picture is selected, a tab of formatting choices appears. The tab name varies depending on the type of clip art inserted— either Picture Tools Format or Drawing Tools Format. Use the choices on the tab to format the inserted clip art.

Inserting a Pull Quote A pull quote is a quote that is “pulled” from an article, enlarged, and displayed in a strategic or attractive location on a page to draw the reader’s attention. In Word 2007, insert a text box to create a pull quote. Click the Text Box button in the Text group of the Insert tab to begin the process for inserting a text box for a pull quote.

Inserting a Pull Quote Word presents several different text box/pull quote styles in the Text Box Gallery that appears. Click the desired text box style to insert it. Or, click Draw Text Box and drag in the document to create a plain text box. Type or paste the quote text into the text box.

Formatting a Pull Quote When a text box or pull quote is selected, the Text Box Tools Format tab appears with choices for formatting the text box. Use the controls on the tab to format the text box, for example applying a style using the Text Box Styles group or sizing the box using the Size group.

Checkpoint Where is clip art found? How do you start the process for inserting clip art? What is the difference between formatting a picture and formatting clip art? What kind of object must you insert to create a pull quote? Name one kind of formatting you can apply to a pull quote.

Understanding SmartArt Word’s new SmartArt feature enables you to create various types of predesigned diagrams and organizational charts.

Redesigning a SmartArt Graphic When a SmartArt graphic is selected, the SmartArt Tools Design tab appears. Click the tab and use its tools to add shapes to the diagram, change its layout or colors, or reset the diagram to its original appearance.

Redesigning a SmartArt Graphic For example, click the Change Colors button in the SmartArt Styles group of the SmartArt Tools Design tab, and then click a new color scheme to apply to the selected SmartArt Graphic.

Formatting a SmartArt Graphic For example, click the Styles gallery in the WordArt Styles group of the SmartArt Tools Format tab, and then click a new text formatting style to apply to the shapes in the selected SmartArt Graphic.

Arranging and Moving SmartArt As when moving a picture, select a text wrapping style before moving a SmartArt diagram. Click the Arrange button on the SmartArt Tools Format tab, and then click the desired wrapping option. Drag the diagram to the desired position with the mouse. Resize the diagram by dragging one of its resizing handles.

Creating an Organizational Chart An organizational chart is a SmartArt graphic that illustrates hierarchical information, such as reporting relationships in an organization.

Creating an Organizational Chart Click the SmartArt button in the Illustrations group of the Insert tab to open the Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box. Click Hierarchy in the left panel. Double-click the desired SmartArt graphic in the middle panel to insert it. Add text as for any other SmartArt graphic.
