Sending an emergency call when there is no media Sometimes called a “data only” call or “non human initiated” emergency call Sent towards a PSAP Typically originates from a sensor or agency with sensors No accompanying RTP (i.e., not an INVITE with SDP), although may contain pointers to one way media (e.g. surveillance video)
Basic Idea Send a “Common Alerting Protocol” (CAP) message in the body of a SIP MESSAGE
Why Use CAP Internationally recognized and used for alerts OASIS standardized But – CAP has no standardized transport No standardized routing mechanisms
Why use SIP? Takes advantage of –phonebcp, and other IETF mechanisms specified for SIP Provides rich SIP route mechanisms Allows emergency networks to limit ingress to – phonebcp compliant SIP for all kinds of calls Reuses LoST and other IETF emergency “call” mechanisms
Other things Could be an “aggregator” between sensor and PSAP. Both could use CAP in MESSAGE CAP has a “payload” to provide content for specific kinds of alerts
