Contributions from the Arabs Arabic was the most widely spoken language in the Muslim world. From the 700s to the 1400s, scholars in Muslim lands preserved learning of the ancient world. In the Middle East and in Spain, Muslim scholars translated some Greek writings into Arabic. When these Arabic translations were translated into Latin, western Europeans learned about ancient Greek thinkers.

Why Italy? Florence, Milan, Naples, Rome, and Venice had grown rich through trade and industry.

Florence, Italy Is considered the birthplace of the Renaissance.

Florence Its wealth & location attracted many artists, sculptors, writers, & architects. On the banks of the Arno River in central Italy. Surrounded by walls with towers for defense. Italian Gold Florins--The Italian florin was a coin struck from 1252 to 1533. The "fiorino d'oro" of the Republic of Florence was the first European gold coin struck in sufficient quantities to play a significant commercial role since the seventh century. As many Florentine banks were international super companies with branches across Europe, the florin quickly became the dominant trade coin of Western Europe for large scale transactions Italian Florin of 1462, series XXVII, with image of St. John the Baptist and his legend - S.IOHANNES.B The very first florins were not English, but were from Florence, hence the name Florin. They were struck in gold from AD 1252 to 1533 by the Republic of Florence, a city-state in modern-day Tuscany, Italy. This coin became the dominant monetary denomination of Western Europe for large-scale transactions for several hundred years
