MECHANICAL WEATHERING WEATHERING

CHEMICAL WEATHERING Three types: Abrasion, Exfoliation, and Ice Wedging. Abrasion- constant collisions Exfoliation- plants, trees, roots, growing through due to extreme pressure. Ice wedging- Water thawing and freezing over time. Frozen water expands creating breaks in rocks.

CHEMICAL REACTIONS There are two types of chemical weathering: Oxidation and Acid Rain. Oxidation- air and water reacting to metal in rocks usually results in a change of color. Acid Rain- chemical rain that results in rock decay such as holes or pieces missing.

WEATHERING, EROSION, DEPOSITION Weathering: The Breaking down of rocks Erosion: The carrying away of rocks. Caused by water and wind. Deposition: The final resting place of rocks. (think of a deposit at the bank, it stays there…usually).
