EA Strategic Planning 2014 Final Progress Report Employees Association, AFSCME May 6, 2015

Introduction We had a very ambitious Strategic Plan. Some things we tried to do, but may not have done as well as we could have. Some things were pretty good. A common thread in the Plan was to build and strengthen our Union infrastructure, processes and leadership. We made excellent strides in these areas. Let’s look at the initiatives:

The Initiatives 1.Organizing 2.Member Education 3.Real-Time Communication 4.Contract Enforcement 5.Addressing Human Resources Processes 6.Strengthening EA’s Brand

1. Organizing Use AFSCME resources and make AFSCME more visible to members  Clarify role of EA Representatives * Membership Activism Foster Relationships with Management * Engaging other groups Political Power

2. Member Education Reinvigorate Steward Program  MOU “Academy” for all members Capture “How the Union Works” *

3. Real-Time Communication  Improve our web-social media presence*  Member Focused Publication * Executive Board Site Visits *

4. Contract Enforcement Continue to develop stable and lasting relationships with all levels of AFSCME Leverage Steward case experience Early Bargaining Preparation

5. Addressing HR Processes Hiring and Promotion Process * Workforce Development  Classification and Compensation Study *

6. Strengthening EA’s Brand Mic Time (Board Meetings)  Accountability Report Card *

In closing Strategic plans are directly influenced by the environment in which we find ourselves. In this plan, our themes lent themselves to helping us get better organized—making the Union be seen and heard as an influential organization, and making the district see that the Union is the people who work here day in and day out. Some of the strategies in this Plan will be moved into an “organizational” category in the new plan. Things such as staying connected with BOD members are now a part of what we do—all the time. The Strategic Plan for will focus on organizing and communication. We have identified so much we can do to continue to build on our successes!
