ADVICE FOR A GOOD LEARNING OF ENGLISH

RULE #1 SILENCE IN CLASS ! (pour que chacun ait la possibilité d’entendre, d’écouter et de se faire entendre)

ADVICE #1 ACTIVE LISTENING

SPEAK ENGLISH !!! ADVICE #2 Like driving a car, you can only learn through doing it.

OTHER PIECES OF ADVICE You should be confident. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! You cannot learn without mistakes. There is a saying: "The person who never made a mistake never made anything." People can only correct your mistakes when they hear you make them. Remember! The best way to learn is through speaking.

OTHER PIECES OF ADVICE You should use English as much as possible. If your teacher asks you a question, try to say as much as possible. If your teacher asks you to speak in pairs or groups with other students, you should only speak in English and say as much as possible.

You should never say: “English is too difficult!” or “I don’t understand anything!” or “I’m hopeless at English! Look! There are many very very stupid people in England or the United States and they CAN speak English !!!!! OTHER PIECES OF ADVICE

Be positive and ENJOY! You learn more when you’re having fun! OTHER PIECES OF ADVICE

Don’t try to understand EVERY word! For a word you don’t understand in a sentence, look at the other words around it. They will help you. Try to guess the meaning from the context.

OTHER PIECES OF ADVICE Don’t translate into English from French. Think in English! Use the English you know even if it’s not much. For isolated words, use a dictionary!

WHEN NOT IN CLASS… OTHER PIECES OF ADVICE PRACTISE EVERY DAY! Or at least 3 times a week! - LEARN BY HEART! - DO THE EXERCISES AND ACTIVITIES CAREFULLY!

OTHER PIECES OF ADVICE WHEN NOT IN CLASS… ENJOY LITTLE GAMES IN ENGLISH: - When you walk down the street, practise reading the words and numbers that you see. Say them to yourself. For example, if you walk along a line of parked cars, say the number on each car quickly as you pass it. - Listen to the words of an English-language song that you like. Then repeat them to yourself and try to sing with the music HAVE FUN IN ENGLISH: -Watch DVDs in English: you can watch them over and over again until you understand. -Read easy books in English (there are some in the school library or you can find children’s books).

I found some interesting help from these two sites: Sources (apart from my tired brains…)
