PERRY HIGH SCHOOL STEM EXPERIENCE 11 TH GRADE

MENU OPTIONS ◦JOB SHADOWING ◦STEM WORKSHOPS (EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION) ◦STEM ACTIVITY (NON EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION) ◦ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES ◦MENU ITEMS MUST BE CHOSEN BY THE END OF FEBRUARY EACH YEAR

1. Job Shadowing: Job shadowing requirements can be found on the PHS website under STEM. Any job shadow that is chosen must be approved by the STEM coordinator. 2. STEM Workshops: (Educational Institution) These are summer enrichment programs, or camps, that universities hold for students. They vary in length, but usually run a week. The camp must be a minimum of 2 days in length and have a STEM related theme. The cost for these programs will vary. Any workshop that is chosen must be approved by the STEM coordinator. 3. STEM Activity: (Non educational institution) Any other type of STEM workshop, activity, etc., that is not necessarily held by an educational institution. These activities could be offered by STEM related companies or organizations. Any activity chosen must be approved by the STEM coordinator.

JOB SHADOWING Preferred menu option Most relevant in relation to real world experience in their STEM field on interest

JOB SHADOWING GOALS The job shadowing is not meant to be a clerical position The purpose is to gain real world experience in the chosen STEM field The student will gain information about their chosen STEM field of interest The student will learn the various job requirements for their chosen STEM field of interest The student will have a more concrete direction they want to continue for college and their career

JOB SHADOWING PROCESS 1. Select a company to perform the job shadow that fits your interest 2. Meet with the STEM Coordinator to discuss your plan and get approval 3. Contact your job shadowing company and secure an assignment 4. Meet with your job shadowing mentor: a.Complete the Job Shadowing Agreement 1. Job Shadowing handbook is online with forms and requirements. b.Coordinate a job shadowing schedule with dates c.Outline your job shadowing expectations, roles, duties and activities d.Provide your mentor with a copy of the time log to complete e.Inform Mentor that STEM coordinator will be discussing the placement with them

JOB SHADOWING PROCESS 5. Return the job shadowing agreement to the STEM Coordinator 6. Complete your job shadowing assignment either during Spring Intersession or during the summer a.Students must complete 12 hours of job shadowing 5. Return completed time log to the STEM Coordinator when your job shadow is complete

PERRY HIGH SCHOOL EXPECTAIONS 1. Maintain a high level of attendance and performance during your job shadow 2. Dress appropriately and professionally for the job assignment 3. Remember you are a representative of Perry High School 4. Follow all rules and safety procedures at the shadow site 5. Keep the STEM coordinator updated on the job shadowing experience 6. Complete all required forms and verify with the STEM Coordinator that you have met the requirements for the completion of the job shadow
