Welcome to 4th Grade Partnership Night 2013

4th Grade’s Action Plan Supporting the POP: We will plan open-ended questions and/or tasks in each subject area that require justification and reasoning. The evidence of this thinking will be seen in our journals, as formatives and summative assessments and in our expository writing. We will use PLC to discuss opportunities and/or anticipate for thinking that is “out of the box” or “off the track.” We plan to provide specific feedback in journals in each subject at least once a six weeks and on all summative writing assignments. We will encourage risk-taking in our classrooms by giving positive reinforcement when students take risks. We will include opportunities in lessons to create scenarios as to how we as teachers, adults and learners have made mistakes, but pushed on. Students will be given quote journals to record quotes and their thinking about the quotes each Friday. These quotes will push students to evaluate themselves as part of a community, a learner and to create thinking about others in their lives.

Parents as Partners We are a team! Communication –Weekly s (Newsletter) –Personal s as needed –WebsiteWebsite –Planner –Phone Homework –Math (spiraled skills) –Spelling (practice using the rules and applying them) –Reading (read nightly – talk about your reading)

Speed To Read STR is a reading incentive program done in partnership with Texas Motor Speedway. There will be 4 turns with various incentives and assemblies! The first turn closes on 9/27 – K-2 goal is 25 books and 3-5 goal is 5 chapter books (or their equivalent). Teachers will track students’ reading progress. The goals are a challenge and we will encourage all students to do their very best!

Grades & Report Cards High expectations for quality Check HERO binder –daily for graded work and notes Report cards & progress reports are only on E-School.

4 th Grade Planner Parent’s signature. Your child should record an objective for each class period each day. They will also write down any necessary reminders (due dates, tests, special events, etc.).

If after warnings, a student who chooses not to display the correct behavior, will receive a mark under that conduct. We will sign on the day and mark on the six week chart found at the end of the six weeks. If your child gets a binder sign – please initial.
