Lesson 3-5 Pages Solving Two-Step Equations Lesson Check 3-4
What you will learn! How to solve two-step equations.
Two-step equation
What you really need to know! A two-step equation contains two operations. To solve, use inverse operations to “undo” each operation in reverse order. First “undo” addition / subtraction. Then “undo” multiplication / division.
3x +0 = 21 3x = 21 Example 1: Solve 3x – 4 = x = 7
Example 2: Solve
Example 3: The formula F = 1.8C + 32 can be used to convert Fahrenheit degrees to Celsius degrees. Solve the equation to find the equivalent Celsius temperature for 59°F.
Example 3: 59 = 1.8C = 1.8C = C 15°C
Example 4: x 5 - =7 -2 = x
Example 5: b – 3b + 8 = 18 -2b + 8 = 18 -2b = 10 b = -5
