3. Puritans favored a plain style of writing with clarity of expression and uncomplicated figures of speech.
A way of writing that stresses simplicity. It emphasized the use of everyday words from common speech.
The words of a sentence or phrase are taken out of normal order to accommodate rhyme and meter. Example Inversion-In silent night when rest I took. Normal – In silent night when I took rest.
