Cell Theory

You will be put in groups of and will be assigned a station. You will have 3 minutes at each station and I will tell you when you can move to the next station. You MUST move quickly and use your time wisely. You will NOT have more time tomorrow. You must draw what you see in the microscope on your worksheet

DO NOT PUSH THOSE THAT ARE LOOKING INTO THE MICROSCOPE DO NOT ADJUST THE MICROSCOPE, BECAUSE YOU WILL LOSE THE IMAGE

All living things: are made up of cells (organization) respond to the environment have the ability to reproduce move grow and develop perform metabolic processes

_ 1A- oral smear _ 1B- cork _ 1C- liver _ 1D- onion _ 1E- Leaf _ 2A- onion mitosis _ 2B- fish mitosis _ 2C- worm mitosis _ 3A- hand sanitizer _3B- paper cutout of letter A

The cell is the smallest unit of a living thing If an organism is unicellular, all functions of life happen within that one cell If an organism is multicellular, different cells have different jobs and they all work together

all living things are made of one or more cells the cell is the smallest unit of life all new cells come from preexisting cells

1660’s – Robert Hooke discovered the cell He looked at cork under the microscope (30x) He noticed little compartments, which he named after the little rooms that monks lived in…”Cells” 1670’s – Anton von Leeuwenhoek described microorganisms in pond water He looked at pond water under the microscope (300x) He noticed that the water was full of moving living things

M.J. Schleiden Theodor Schwann They discovered that the cell was the basic unit of life and that all living things are composed of cells

20 years later Rudolf Virchow concluded that all living cells arise from preexisting cells

Why is the cell theory a theory?

 You will be grouped in four groups of five  You must come up with a 2 minute rap/song to help you remember what the cell theory is. You must include the three components of the cell theory in your rap/song.
