Sunday, June 7, 2015 Speaker: Dr. Roger Ghoche Choosing Jesus Luke 9:51-62 The 8 th message in our 19-part series on the Gospel of Luke. LUKE 9:51-62 LET THE DEAD BURY THEIR OWN DEAD, BUT YOU GO AND PROCLAIM THE KINGDOM OF GOD

THE SON OF MAN MUST SUFFER MANY THINGS

CHOOSING JESUS God’s Mission, as described by Luke 1-9:50 Luke 9: Choosing Jesus’ Self-Sacrificial Love Luke 9: Choosing Jesus Every Time Application

BRING FULLNESS OF LIFE TO ALL PEOPLE THROUGH HIS SON JESUS CHRIST AND THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT ACTING THROUGH HIS CHURCH GOD’S MISSION

ZECHARIAH’S SONG Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago), salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us

JOHN THE BAPTIST I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire

LUKE 4:18-19 VS. ISAIAH 61:1-2 The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour, Isaiah adds - and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion

LUKE 9:51-56 When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent his messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” But he turned and rebuked them. And they went on to another village.

FOLLOW THE LEADER

LUKE 9:57-62 As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
