KEYBOARD PCB
MAINBOARD PCB
Keyboard PCB Considerations The keyboard keys need to be placed in a layout similar to a standard keyboard Trace sizes minimized because of compactness of layout, and placed far from cutouts to avoid damage when cutting slots for keys on PCB Size of vias/drill holes minimized
Microcontroller Considerations Placed at a central location to minimize trace lengths Small resistors placed in series with microcontroller programmer lines to provide protection from ESD No analog signals, just digital control and communication signals Decoupling capacitors placed as close as possible to V DD and GND pins
Power Supply Considerations Power supply components placed as close together as possible and separate from digital control/communication components/traces Ground traces between voltage sources and voltage regulators as short as possible to minimize common impedance Keyboard connector carries power to Keyboard PCB, so placed close to power supply components Bypass capacitors placed as close to regulators as possible
