* Four Corners, find the corner that represents how you feel about the following statement “ I am feeling more confident having worked on reading and reading skills over the past two weeks, when thinking about the ACT reading section”

I will be able to work on personal goals in reading and work towards self-improvement through close reading.

* C=conversation, you may speak during class share out and when directed to speak with your peers *REMINDER WE PRACTICE RESPECT! * H=help, please raise your hand * A=activity, you are sharing out and responding to the text. * M=movement we are not, all supplies will be given to you * P=participation, you are listening and responding to your peers, NO heads down, cell phones and/or eating

Close reading Why are we? How will it help me? This is why I’m sitting in this group!

* Read to yourself for 20 minutes. * As you read highlight phrases and sentences that you find grab your attention, use an exclamation mark for items that you find exciting !, ? For items that you have a question about and then right your thought in the margin. * You are actively reading and interacting with the text.

* Now with your cooperative learning group, answer your assigned questions. * You need to discuss the answers and find evidence from the text to prove that you have the correct answer or NO credit will be given

* What are some the major conflicts that the South Africans are facing according to the text? cite a piece of evidence that supports your answer. * What are some ways that South Africans are starting to reform their society? Cite a piece of evidence from the text.

* Who is the author and what was their purpose in creating this text? Cite a piece of evidence from the text * What connections can you make between the problems in South Africa and our American society based on your text? * Should we as an international help the women of South Africa why or why not, cite a piece of evidence to support your claim?

* What support do I still need from Ms. Gomez in order to help me be more successful in reading for the ACT?
