Relationship to the Land 75% of Scotland’s land mass is agricultural production. Scotland’s Farmers, crofters and growers produce around £2.3 billion a year. Agriculture is the third largest employer in rural Scotland, with people employed. Cereal farms are mostly common in the east of Scotland, while sheep ranching in more predominant in the north west. Scotland also fishes and they ranch cows all over Scotland but it is more common in the south west.

How is relationship to the land an expression of identity? Their relationship to the land is an expression of their identity because they rely on the land for farming, ranching, hunting, and fishing. Having three quarters of the land mass as agricultural production it creates a lot of jobs for them.

Scotland’s Arts Scotland has three national instruments. They are bagpipes, the fiddle, and the clàrsach. Scotland has a lot of highland dances. Like Fling, Sword, Reel, and Seann Triubhas. Fling and Reel were created to stay in shape for battle. Sword is a victory dance after they defeat there opponent. Originally highland dancing was for males only.

How is art an expression of identity? Scotland’s art shows their individualism from the rest of the world. But their dances shows collectivism because it represents a group of Scottish people.
