Food -From 8000 BC to 5000 BC the Archaic Indians hunted large animals -The large animals started to die out -The Indians started to hunt small animals -Deer -Turkey -Bear -Rabbit -Reptiles -Fish -The drank water and occasionally, blood.
Housing/Dwelling The Archaic were nomadic so they didn’t need permanent shelters. Made temporary huts out of leaves, sticks, mud, and other things in nature. Protected from heat and cold but not rain Needed repairs often
Housing/Dwelling Cont. -The other type of shelter was a rock shelter -It was very protecting from the rain, hail, lightning, and snow -It was open on three sides -Didn’t protect from heat or cold -It was one big room -Sleeping and cooking took place in it Inside the Rock Shelter
Weapons Rabbit Stick -Thrown at rabbit to kill them -They were also used to rake coals in the fire Atlatl -It was a spear thrower -Used to kill animals Spear -Used to kill animals by throwing it at them
Tools Bone Awl -Used for weaving fibers together -Made out of bone Digging Stick -Used to dig up the roots of plants Fire Drill -Used to create fiction to start a fire
Tools cont. Fish Hook -Used to catch fish Knives, Scrapers, and Choppers -Used for butchering, cutting hides, and harvesting plants -Used to break away bones and scrape away membranes
Art -The art told stories passed down from generations -It could tell what animals they hunted -They would paint pictures of their holy beings and events -They would show important people in history
