Rain Forests

What are Rain Forests? Rain forests are Dense jungles with large amounts of rain fall. They are different to most forests as this rainfall happen throughout the whole year rather then just the rainy season. What Lives In Rain forests? Rain forests hold over half the worlds species of both plants and animals, this is because they hold perfect living conditions for a large number of species of both flora and fauna. How Are They Formed? Rain Forests are formed mainly around the equator when jungles and high humidity cause very damp, rainy conditions. What Are The Effects Of Rain Forests? Rain forests are home to many different species of animals and plant, without rain forests, there would not be as many different types of animals as they would not have they're proper habitat.

Rain Forests Of The World

WetLands

Wetlands What are Wetlands? The ‘Ramsar Convention On Wetlands’ states that “Wetlands are areas of marsh, fen, peatland or water, whether natural or artificial, permanent or temporary” What Lives In Wetlands? Wetlands are home to many different species of plants and animals. Plants that live in wetlands are mostly Hydrophytes and have adapted to growing in very moist soil, a vast majority of animals that live in wetlands are insects, birds, fish and a limited amount of reptiles and amphibians. How Are They Formed? Wetlands Can be formed many ways though the main reason for formation is water runoff from mountains, valleys etc, regularly saturating the same area. What Are The Effects of Wetlands Wetlands are sometimes the only source of water for animals in dry countries, Without them there would not be as many animals living in those areas.

Map Of Wetlands This map shows all the large wetlands around the world.

Mountains

What Are Mountains? Mountains are defined as large elevations of earth rising above the surrounding area What Lives In Mountain areas? Some mountains are able to home plants and animals while others can not, this is because some mountains are comosed of mainly rock wheras other are made up of dirt, soil etc. Many different species of animals and plants that can live on mountains depending on the environment. How Are They Formed? Mountains are formed when two of the earths plates collide resulting in parts of the plates being uplifted, forming mountains. What Are The Effects Of Mountains? Mountains can effect the weather as they can become a barrier against the wind, this can cause the temperature to be lower then it would be if not for the mountains.
