THE TERRY FOUNDATION The Terry Foundation was established in 1986 by Howard and Nancy Terry, out of a desire to help young people help themselves. The Foundation's goal is to strengthen the State of Texas by identifying Texas high school graduates and transfer students who evidence the promise of future leadership distinction. Terry Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate leadership, academic achievement, and financial need. Advancing the collective impact of scholarship providers and the scholarships they award. MY BACKGROUND 5+ years financial aid experience at the University of North Texas (UNT) –Administered university-funded scholarships, state-funded scholarships, as well as federal and state grant funding Established Terry Scholars program on-campus at UNT from –Included reviewing applications and submitting nominations Scholar Relations Coordinator at The Terry Foundation –Coordinate with on-campus contacts, front-line communications with Scholars, processing awards, and event programming

Review of Applications Traditional Students (incoming freshmen) Struggles Various GPA scales Weighted GPAs Solutions Review grades for core classes Review choice of major Transfer/Non-Traditional Students Struggles Various transcript formats From 2 or 4 year institutions Solutions Review progress over time Review choice of major Advancing the collective impact of scholarship providers and the scholarships they award. Applications submitted to & reviewed by participating universities. University submits designated number of nominees & alternates to the Terry Foundation. Alumni & Director panelists review applications & interview nominees. The Terry Foundation does not accept applications from students in post- baccalaureate or graduate programs.

Review of Renewal Criteria Renewal Criteria 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA 2.0 or higher semester GPA Attend 3 mandatory events Submit Annual Self Evaluation Letter Traditional Scholars must also submit a FAFSA and report outside scholarships/grants Grade Reporting Universities submit grade reports to the Foundation. Scholars who do not meet requirements are notified via from Foundation (CC: university coordinator). Scholars who earn a cGPA less than 2.5 are placed on probation for 1 semester. Communication of Requirements Scholars are provided a Scholar Handbook (hardcopy and available on the web) which includes all requirements. All requirements are explained at Fall Orientation session held on-campus.
