Chemistry Bonds and what holds molecules together

Objectives At the end of the lesson students will have Learned the different types of bonds. Learned the strength of each type of bond Learned to tell what bond is present in a molecule. Learned the difference between a pi and a sigma bond.

Day by day ASSURE Students will be in the upper level of their class, students will be told that they are to know bonds, what type of bonds there are, how strong they are, and weather they are pi bonds, sigma bonds are both. Students will have 5 days to use my lecture on the topic as well as notes they take, their books, and the website organic as a second language to learn the material. Students will be required to turn in homework so that I may make sure they are learning the required information, students will score a 80% or higher on their test.

Day by day Day 1: Students will learn the difference between ionic and covalent bonds. They will be able to look at a compound and tell if it is ionic or covalent. Day 2: Students will learn about Van Der Walls forces and dipole bonds as well as which bond is the strongest.

Day by day Day 3: Students will learn how to identify which of the previously listed bonds are present in a given molecule. Day 4: Students will learn the difference between a pi and sigma bond Day 5: Students will be able to take a given compound and list the bonds, list which are pi or sigma, and tell if they are ionic, covalent, hydrogen, or dipole-dipole bonds.

Media and materials Students will be able to use their chemistry books, my notes and lecture, and I will introduce students to interactive videos at organic as a second language.
