microscope An instrument used to observe or view small objects. We learned all of the parts of a microscope in science class.

microchip A small electronic device. My dog had a microchip implanted under her skin so we could find her if she ran away.

microorganism A small organism such as bacteria, a virus or fungus. Microorganisms can only be seen through a microscope.

microphone An instrument that converts sound waves. Ryan Seacrest has a custom diamond encrusted microphone.

consent permission I need my parents written consent so I can go on the field trip.

sensory Using any of the five senses. Adding sensory details to your story brings it to life.

sentence A set of words to complete an idea. Reread each sentence you write to make sure it sounds right.

sentiment A feeling or emotion. You have to be tough when you are a soldier at war, there is no room for sentiment.

articulate To speak in a clear, fluent manner. The baby is beginning to form articulate words and phrases.

decompose When something decays, rots or breaks down. Bacteria and fungi help decompose organic matter.
