JAMES MADISON AS 4TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES HE ENTERED OFFICE WITH STRENUOUS RELATIONS WITH BRITAIN OVER A VARIETY OF PROBLEMS. MADISON ASKED A SPLIT CONGRESS FOR A DECLARATION OF WAR WHICH HAD BARELY PASSED BETWEEN RELUCT FEDERALISTS AND WAR HAWK ANTI FEDERALISTS.MADISON THROUGHOUT THE WAR MADE TERRIBLE DECISIONS, POOR GENERAL, PLANS AND THE LIKE.

WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON GENERAL DURING THE WAR OF THE 1812, HE HAD LED TROOPS INTO BATTLES THE FAMOUS BATTLE OF TIPPECANOE AND BATTLE OF THE THAMES. BATTLE OF TIPPECANOE WILLIAM HAD ATTACKED INDIANS LED BY TECUMSEH THAT WERE PLANNING TO ATTACK U.S TO RECLAIM LAND. BATTLE OF THE THAMES HE LED 1000 AMERICAN TROOPS TO ATTACK BRITISH TROOPS AND INDIAN ALLIES, DURING THE BATTLE AMERICAN TROOP HAD KILLED TECUMSEH WHO WAS A BRITISH GENERAL. AFTER HIS MILITARY SUCCESS HE BECAME THE NINTH PRESIDENT OF UNITED STATES.

ANDREW JACKSON HIS MILITARY CAREER WAS IN THE SOUTH DURING THE WAR. THE BATTLES HE PARTICIPATED IN WERE THE BATTLE OF HORSESHOE BEND AND BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS. BATTLE OF HORSESHOE BEND WAS FOUGHT AGAINST THE INDIANS WHEN THE BATTLE WAS FINISHED JACKSON WON AND WON LAND FROM THE INDIANS. THE BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS WAS THE LAST BATTLE IN THE WAR NEVER HAD TO BE FOUGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE SINCE THE TREATY WAS SIGNED BUT SINCE OF COMMUNICATIONS BACK THEN LACKED THE FAST TRANSPORTATION, WORD OF IT DID NOT ARRIVE UNTIL AFTER THE BATTLE WAS FOUGHT. THE BATTLE ITSELF WAS A MAJOR VICTORY FOR THE U.S JACKSON BECAME A NATIONAL AND LATER BECAME PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

BURNING OF WASHINGTON THE BURNING OF WASHINGTON WAS A DIRECT RESULT OF AMERICAN FORCES BURNING YORK. THE BRITISH SAILED SHIPS NEAR WASHINGTON AND LANDED TROOPS THAT SET FIRE TO MANY PUBLIC BUILDINGS INCLUDING THE WHITE HOUSE AND THE CAPITOL BUILDING. AFTERWARDS A FREAK TORNADO CAME AND DEMOLISHED THE CITY AND CAUSED MANY BRITISH SOLDIERS TO LOSE THEIR LIVES.

BATTLE OF BALTIMORE THE BATTLE ITSELF WAS MOSTLY JUST THE SIEGE OF FORT MCHENRY. THE SIEGE LASTED FOR A WHOLE DAY. DURING THE BATTLE THE U.S NAVY ENGAGED THE BRITISH NAVY AND THIS IS WHERE THE U.S SHIP THE CONSTITUTION GOT HER NICKNAME OLD IRONSIDE. WHEN MORNING CAME AFTER A WHOLE NIGHT OF BOMBARDMENT A FLAG WAS RAISED AND SHOWED THE THAT FORT STILL STOOD. FRANCIS SCOTT KEY ON A BRITISH PRISON SHIP SAW THIS DISPLAY AND WROTE THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER WHICH LATER BECAME THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IN THE 1930S.

TREATY OF GHENT SIGNED IN 1814 THE TREATY OF GHENT SIGNIFIED THE END OF THE WAR OF THE TREATY’S MAIN CONSTRUCTOR OF THE U.S WAS JOHN QUINCY ADAMS. THE TREATY STATED THAT THE BORDERS WOULD STAY AS THEY WERE PRE WAR, FIGHTING SHALL CEASE AND RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE NATIONS WOULD GO TO ANTE BELLUM (PRE WAR). THE WORD OF THE TREATY SIGNING DID NOT REACH THE U.S. UNTIL NEXT YEAR 1815 BUT BY THEN ANOTHER MAJOR BATTLE WAS THOUGHT NEEDLESSLY.

EFFECTS OF THE WAR THE OFFICIAL END OF THE WAR BROUGHT MANY THINGS BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL. DURING THE WAR THE FEDERALIST PARTY WAS AGAINST IT AND PLANNED ON SECEDING IN THE NORTH. WHEN THE WAR ENDED THEY WERE LABELED TRAITORS IN PUBLIC IN DOING SO THEY LOST FACE IN THE POPULATION AND THE PARTY DISBANDED SOON AFTER. THE ANTI FEDERALISTS HAD THEIR OWN PROBLEMS THEY SPLIT INTO TWO, THE NATIONAL REPUBLICANS WHO ADOPTED SOME FEDERALIST THINKING, AND THE JEFFERSONIAN REPUBLICANS WHO STILL FOLLOWS THOMAS JEFFERSON. GLOBALLY THE U.S GAINED PRESTIGE FOR BEING ABLE TO HOLD OFF THE STRONGEST NATION OF THAT AND OTHERNATIONS KNEW THAT THEY WERE STICKING AROUND.

STORIES OF THE WAR ● ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS STORIES THAT CAME OUT OF THE WAR IS HOW DOLLY MADISON THE WIFE OF JAMES MADISON SAVED THE PORTRAIT OF GEORGE WASHINGTON BEFORE THE BRITISH BURNED THE WHITE HOUSE
