M RS. S MITH Ten things you need to know…

N UMBER 10 is the best way to contact me and my address is

N UMBER 9 Grades are posted on Skyward and updated as soon as I have the assignment graded. A * means I’m still working on it and a 0 means they didn’t turn it in.

N UMBER 8 Class website is ms_smiths_site/default.aspx ms_smiths_site/default.aspx

N UMBER 7 This is a dual credit course Students earn.5 health credit and.5 CTE credit with a passing grade Your student can earn college credit in this class by earning a B or higher and getting certified in first aid/CPR/AED. The credits earned are for a community college but can transfer to many 4 year universities

N UMBER 6 We will cover the following topics: Goal Setting/Decision Making/Media Analysis Nutrition Mental Health/Stress Management Relationships/Social Health FLASH (Family Life and Sexual Health) Human Body/Disease Substance Use and Abuse CPR/First Aid

N UMBER 5 We teach facts and not values. My goal is to give your students the information they need to make healthy decisions based on their personal values. They will also have several homework assignments where they need to talk to a trusted adult about their beliefs/values.

N UMBER 4 Attendance in all classes is crucial to success. Many of the activities from this class cannot be duplicated

N UMBER 3 Students will be given time to complete the Career Exploration project during this class which is a graduation requirement

N UMBER 2 We use the 2014 version of Pearson’s Health and the FLASH curriculum. Text books will be kept in the classroom. There are a limited number of online text books available for students that need a text at home.

N UMBER 1 Ask your student what they are learning in class. We encourage students to discuss all the topics we discuss in class with their family and other trusted adults.
