Inquiry Activity Parts of an Experiment “The Floating Egg” Eric Angat Teacher PHS

Essential Question: How do I Identify the parts of an experiment?

Reminders: 1.Follows instructions. 2.Formulate your hypothesis. 3.Record all observations. You can take pictures or recordings of your experiment using your devices. 4.Identify the parts of the experiment. 5.Make valid or objective conclusions.

Gropuping: 1. choose the leader of the group. 2. Choose a secretary or recorder. 3. Choose who will be performing the steps, together with the leader. 4. Choose one to take pictures. 5. Choose who will clean up after the experiment.

Formulating your hypothesis: I.Investigative Question: How can I make an egg float? Hypothesis: If _______________________, then _____________________________ because______________________ I dissolve enough salt in the water the egg will float ?Research!

1.Fill both cups with ¾ full of water.

2.Label the first cup as Set up A and the second cup as Set up B. A B

Set up A is your control group. Set up B is your experimental group. A B

3.Pour salt in set up B. Do this slowly and carefully. B

4.Do not pour salt in Set up A.

B 5. Hold and secure the cup of Set up B and gently stir the water for 20 seconds. Be careful not to spill the water! Dissolve the salt complety in 20 seconds!

How do I Identify the parts of an experiment? The control group is the part of the experiment that remains the same. The experimental group is the group that is being experimented on. The independent variable is the change you are making to the experimental group. The dependent variable is the result that occurred from the experimentation.
