3 Obesity: Key Facts Definition: In adults body mass index (BMI) of % adults (16 years+) overweight or obese and one in three children aged 11 Children of obese parents more likely to be overweight Increased risk of illness, disability & premature death Generally caused by consuming more calories than you are burning though e.g. physical exercise Some health conditions can cause weight gain, but these can be treated with medication
