Request for NPSS Sponsorship of the Council on Superconductivity Background: – One of 7 IEEE Councils – The Council's Field of interest – "The field of interest of the Council and its activities and programs shall be to cover the science and technology of superconductors and their applications, including materials and their applications for electronics and power systems, where the superconductor properties are central to the application. Superconducting electronic applications will include both analog and digital circuits and systems. Power applications will include the generation, storage, transmission and use of electric power.”

Request for NPSS Sponsorship of the Council on Superconductivity 1.No negative financial impact. $5K initial sponsorship will be returned through Council sponsorship of any NPSS activity 2.Member benefit: Many NPSS members active in superconductivity and many serve as volunteers for the Council. One example : Steve Gourlay, NPSS member, was chair of the 2012 Applied Superconductivity Conference and will be chair of the next Particle Accelerator Conference which is co-sponsored by NPSS. 3.Member growth: the Council has no members. The Council engages in initiatives to increase IEEE and Society membership. New recruits who are interested in NPSS are encouraged by the Council to join NPSS. New student members are sponsored by the Council to become NPSS members. 4.Mutual support of Fellowship Applications From Elie Track, Council President:

Request for NPSS Sponsorship of the Council on Superconductivity 5.Council sponsored and co-sponsored conferences have NPSS-related components (example: Magnet Technology Conference) 6.Superconductivity is a significant component of Particle Accelerator Conference papers for next generation accelerators 7.Potential special issues in Council Transactions about NPSS (and conversely) 8.Potential special sessions on NPSS at Council conferences (and conversely) 9.2 NPSS representatives to serve on Council AdCom can be easily identified by the Council and proposed to the NPSS president from the many Council volunteers who are also NPSS members.
