The Metropolitan Museum of Art's goes back to 1866 in Paris, France. A group of Americans agreed to create a "national institution and gallery of art" to bring art and art education to the American people.

April 13, 1870, the Legislature of the State of New York granted an act of incorporation that formally established The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Whalers Joseph Mallord William Turner (British, London 1775–1851 London) Date: ca Accession Number: 96.29

Capital Date: 10th century Accession Number:

 Devoted to Bartholomeus Spranger (1546–1611), an artist who served a cardinal, a pope, and two Holy Roman Emperors. It expresses Spranger's career through a selection of his rare paintings, drawings, and etchings. Spranger emerged as one of the most significant Northern Mannerist artist of his generation.

 This exhibition is devoted to the history of mourning clothes. From dresses and veils to the accessories worn by widows from This exhibition focuses on attire that women wore when mourning.

 This is the first exhibition that shares paintings, drawings, and watercolors by Paul Cézanne (1839– 1906). His most painted model, is Hortense Fiquet (1850–1922). Not only was she his model, but she was also his wife and mother to his son.

 After virtually visiting the museum, I enjoyed the variety of artwork that is displayed. From paintings and sculptures to European arms and armor collection. I found it very interesting how there is such a variety of exhibits. I wish that one day I can actually visit it in person. I found the Death Becomes Her: A Century of Mourning Attire exhibit to be the most interesting and would like to visit it in person to see more of the attire that isn’t shown on the website.
