Before you begin this section on creating a document, be sure you have considered the suggestions in the previous sections on planning your project. Important Information Before you Begin Let’s Begin!

When you launch MS Publisher you will be presented with this catalog screen. It may be useful to browse through the different templates available. Do not choose a template at this point.

Close the catalog feature and click on the “New document” icon. You are now ready to begin creating with a blank page.

Now lets add text by pressing the text tool icon. Move over the blank page with the cursor. Left click and hold anywhere on the page that you wish to add text. Drag the cursor over or down until you get the size you want.

You should now have a text box ready for you text input.

Try typing something into the text box.

Now try changing the font with the font menu.

Now try changing the size with the size menu.

Next change the color of the text by selecting the text color icon

You can add a picture from file or clipart using the Insert menu

Choose clipart from the Insert menu and browse for picture for you document.

You may adjust the size or move the graphic object by grabbing a corner or side.

Now we can add some professional looking elements by choosing the Design Gallery found under the Insert command on the toolbar.

In the Design Gallery use the menu to browse and choose an element of your choice. Remember, you can always change color schemes and layouts later in you document.

Here a newsletter header was selected. You can easily change the look of this by using the Quick Publication Wizard.

The Quick Publication Wizard. Will let you adjust many aspects of the design element.

Clicking on the design element will allow modification of the text.

Now we can use the Word Art tool to add unusual textual effects.

The Word Art Tool brings up a different display with some interesting text options. Change the look of your text by selecting a variety of the icons above. When you are satisfied, choose update display to return to your document.

The Custom Shapes menu can be used to add desired shape to your document. Choose a shape from the menu.

Right clicking the Custom Shape will bring up a menu can be used to modify the shape in many ways.

You have completed this section Good luck!
