General Safety Everything else takes a backseat to safety

It’s All Our Responsibility Be an advocate. Remind your teammates if they forget to the proper precautions, or act in an unsafe manner. Safety needs to be a habit, not an afterthought

Simple Common Sense Ideas Wear safety glasses at all times. Wear ear protection as necessary. Keep work piece and work area clean. Use proper ventilation if needed. Have adequate lighting. Protect from dust, metal shards, etc. Understand the materials you are working with. Check MSDS? Need gloves? Etc.

Common sense, continued Insulate electrical wires. Don’t eat and drink near work area. No distractions, horseplay, interruptions. Be aware of what’s going on around you at all times; this includes where to stand while others are working. Make sure others are aware of what’s going on. Don’t leave sharp edges – deburr, file, sand

“Process” Observe best practices. Read FIRST safety manual; apply Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Follow checklists when posted. Haste really does make waste. Store items (including robot) in lowest energy state – no springs armed, batteries connected, arms raised, etc. Be a Safety Captain.

Personal Safety No loose clothing, ties, jewelry, chains, long hair, etc. Wear closed toe/heel shoes. No running. Know where the first aid kit is. Know where the MSDS information is.

Getting Physical Lift from your legs, not your back. Robots are heavy and oddly shaped. Get help when you need it. If item is raised, make sure supports are stable. Remember PPE.
