Estimation Figuring out how much you can buy without a calculator! $2.99 = $3.00?!?

What does it mean to estimate?? When someone estimates, they are taking an educated guess about something. Estimation is used a lot when it comes to money. If people went around calculating exact amounts of money every time they went shopping, they would be at the store for HOURS! Ain’t nobody got time for that, dear.

Let’s get down to business Let’s say you are shopping for some new shoes and come across these fabulous beauties: How much does the tag say? How much will you need to pay altogether? Find out by estimating the price! $49.99 is SUPER close to $50.00! ___________ + ___________ = ___________ $49.99 for Each shoe

Let’s do another You’re eating lunch with your buddies. Here’s what you ordered: A can of pop: $1.52 Slice of pizza: $3.48 What do you estimate you will pay? Hint: Always round up when it comes to money. It’s better to have more than enough money than not enough! ___________ + ___________ = ___________

Try this on your own Going to Starbucks! You order the following: Pumpkin spice latte tall: $5.23Estimated Price: _____________ Chocolate chip muffin: $3.17Estimated Price: _____________ ___________ + ___________ = ___________

Try another You are going to see a movie with a friend! Movie Tickets are $7.75Estimated Price: ______________ A large popcorn is $5.82 Estimated Price: ______________ A large drink is $4.22 Estimated Price: ______________ ___________ + ___________ + ___________ = ______________
