Presentation transcript:

Following the suggestion of the NEAREST Project leader, to invite several partners to a Workshop in Rabat in order to integrate Moroccan input into the different Project Workpackages, a call for participation to a NEAREST Workshop in Rabat and a field trip was launched for March , The field trip was devoted to the presentation of new observations relevant to the Moroccan Atlantic coast and sampling in potential sites.

Thus, the period from March 26 to 31, 2008 has been proposed, for a two- day Workshop to exchange and discuss data covering WPs of NEAREST on Morocco and 3 full days for the sampling and discussion of new field observations. As for sampling in potential sites, the suggestion of Pr. Zitellini to operate at least one drilling in a potential site of the Moulay Bou Selham lagoon, and another in a second site, was a relevant suggestion. Furthermore, the Moroccan team had interesting obsevations in other Moroccan Atlantic lowlands to show (Oualidia, Cap Rhir and southern Tan Tan) to show.

Official Departements that attended the workshop Direction de la Protection Civile: PC Etat Major Général de la Gendarmerie Royale: EMG GR Direction Technique de Habitat : DTH Centre Royale de Télédétection Spatiale : CRTS Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines : ONHYM Département de l’Enseignement Supérieur, de la Formation des cadres et de la Recherche Scientifique.

The workshop was held in two sessions: The first was moderated by Professor Aomar IBEN BRAHIM and involved presentations relating to works packages 1, 3 and 5. The second session was moderated by Professor Cesar ANDRADE of the University of Lisbon (Portugal). Two presentations focused primarily on work packages 6 and 7

Fieldwork in the NW of Morocco: Identification of suitable site and sampling of deposits in the coastal lagoon My Bouselham and in the estuary of Loukos (Larache); Introduction of new neotectonic observations in the area between My Bouselham and Larache, Northern Morocco.

After discussion and agreement of all participants including researchers from the Faculty of Sciences of El Jadida and the Faculty of Science and Technology of Tangier, a number of cores were made in the My Bouselham lagoon and the Loukos estuary, Larache.
