What does Jesus think about purity of heart?
Matthew 5:8 “God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.” Repentant over sins Meek Hungry and thirsty for righteousness
Exactly what is meant by this term, ‘the heart?”
The New Testament usage includes the emotional, intellectual and the will.
Remember when Samuel was picking a king, the Lord reminded him that He looks upon the HEART!
Mark 7:14-23
What does pure mean?
“without hypocrisy” “utterly sincere”
This leads to an oneness of purpose.
1 Samuel 7:3 “Then Samuel said to all the people of Israel, "If you are really serious about wanting to return to the LORD, get rid of
your foreign gods and your images of Ashtoreth your foreign gods and your images of Ashtoreth. Determine to obey only the LORD; then he will rescue you from the Philistines.”
“they will see God”
1) This refers to your initial salvation.
2) It also applies to when Christ returns on day to end this world.
1 Corinthians 13:12 “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”
Is that all?
3) It also applies to your walk on earth as a follower of Christ after your initial salvation.
I want to speak to those of you who have had great experiences where you saw God do great things in and through you.
So why do you want that experience to be limited to a ministry time or a mission trip?
Why not make it a lifestyle that allows God to work in your everyday life in the same way?
A major problem in the lives of present-day Christians is a divided heart.
Romans 7:21-25 “So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s
law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within
me. What a wretched man I am me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!”
A pure heart then is the heart of Jesus.
How can our hearts become pure?
1) God does His part
Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.”
2) We also have to do our part
James 4:8 “Come close to God, and God will come close to you James 4:8 “Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.”
3) Get ready to see God’s glory work in your life and through your DAILY life.
A good question for today is, “WHO ARE YOU WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING?”
Take off the masks and be the real thing.
