Presentation transcript:

“For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.”

 Newton experienced his famous inspiration of gravity with the falling apple.  Law of Gravitation The principle that expresses the force of gravitational attraction between two bodies as a function of their mass and their distance

 Law of Inertia: Every object stays in its state of rest or uniform motion, unless disturbed by an external force.  Force Law: Force is equal to mass times acceleration and a change in motion is proportional to the force applied Force=mass x acceleration  Action-Reaction Law: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

 The three laws allowed Newton to calculate the mass of each planet, the flattening of the Earth, and the how gravitational pull of the sun and moon create the Earth’s tides.  The force he called gravity, kept the universe balancedgravity

 Newton enrolled at Cambridge University in 1661  Interested in mathematics, optics, physics, and astronomy.  Optics- study of sight and behavior of light

 The reflecting telescope, 1668  It brought him much attention and landed him as a fellow in the Royal Society in 1672.

 Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica  Latin for “Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy“  Published in Latin 1687  Primarily about massive bodies of motions and hypothetical laws of force in resisting and non- resisting

 Isaac lost interest in science  Interested in politics; elected as a representative of the university of Parliament  In 1696, Isaac left Cambridge to become a warden of the Mint (production of money)

 Isaac Newton died on March 20, 1727  He developed a mathematical explanation of the universe and opened many doors for scientists to further study  He is widely known for his Laws of Motion and his the Universal Law of Gravitation.
